Dania Reymond, visual artist, graduate of the Fresnoy, was selected by the GREC (Groupe de Recherches et d’Essais Cinématographiques) and the National Center of Fine Arts in France to make a short film on the subject of the “first image”. She chose Tahar Djaout’s book, “Les chercheurs d’os” (The bone hunters) as a starting point, in which the author, who died in a terrorist attack carried out by the FIS in 1993, reminds us of the use of cinema by the French army as a propaganda tool during the Algerian war. Cinema is perceived by the Algerian government as a dangerous protest weapon and is frequently a subject of censorship.
