Letter to my sister
“In 1994 Nabila wrote me a letter in which she told me about the increasing violence, repression and assassinations, her few hopes and her despair in view of the nearly impossible counter-action measures during these Years of Lead. I was then living in a city in the Algerian Sahara. Ten years after the assassination of Nabila I went back to make a film and to tell what happened, to see what had become of Tizi-Ouzou, what had become of the people, ask them why assassination and the massacre of civilians became the only response to the conflict that opposes Algerians.”(H.Djahnine)
Letter to my sister is about the assassination of Nabila Djahnine, president of a women’s rights association and sister of the director, on February 15th 1995 in Tizi-Ouzou during the Black Decade in Algeria. An opportunity for Habiba Djahnine to question the measures available against the collective psychosis and the denial of women’s and men’s fundamental rights.
In the presence of the director.
